The hotel/restaurant "Le Sirene" stands in a picturesque small fishing village called Marina del Cantone right on the beach and a few meters from the sea in part of the marine nature reserve of Punta Campanella. The building , which goes back to the end of the 17th Century, is a former convent affiliated to the Carthusian monastery of Padula. Thanks to the dedication and hospitality of the owners and to its private beach, Le Sirene has become a favorite spot for those who like to spend a "sun and sea" holiday. |

A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY |
||||
![]() |
According to tradition, a villa of the Emperor Nero was found right on this bay and consequently gave it's name to the village of Nerano, of which Marina del Cantone forms part. Strabone, the Greek geographer and historian of the 1st Century BC, founded on the promontory of Montalto in the extreme west of the bay a sanctuary dedicated to the Sirens (Partenope, Ligea and Leucosia) who right on this section of the coast had tried in vain to stop Ulysses and his companions. The inhabitants, on the other hand, did not succeed in stopping the continuous invasions of pirates, especially the Saracens, and they built by way of defense a series of look-out towers (155 to 1561) which still today cling to the rocks and overhang the sea looking out silently over this enchanting coast. |
